Action Plan related to COVID-19 & considerations regarding

Brixham Theatre, managed by BTCIO as of 03/03/20

We recognise that Volunteers and patrons are concerned about COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Brixham Theatre is monitoring Government advice daily and have registered with Public Health England for regular email updates and will follow their advice.  The health & safety of our Volunteers, Patrons & Hirers is paramount, this document has been drafted to provide information and guidance for the users of the Theatre as of the above date, and will be reviewed and revised according to Public Health England advice.

As part of the Brixham Town Hall complex the shared public areas such as the Bar, toilets, stairs and corridors are managed by Brixham Town Council who have employed the following measures;

  • Hourly cleaning of doors, door handles, light switches, balustrading, handrails, lift buttons, toilet flush handles and locks.

  • Additional signs to put up in public toilets to remind visitors to clean their hands

  • Public Health England information will also be displayed

Brixham Theatre CIO have agreed to adopt these measures.

In addition, a supply of sanitiser and tissues can be found at the Town Council reception desk to encourage good hygiene to any of our visitors and to give some protection to staff.

Public Health England websites states that there are general principles anyone can follow to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

  • washing your hands often - with soap and water or use alcohol sanitiser if handwashing facilities are not available. This is particularly important after taking public transport

  • covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in a bin.

  • people who feel unwell should stay at home and should not attend work or any education or childcare setting

  • use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available

  • avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands

  • avoid close contact with people who are unwell

  • clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces

  • if you are worried about your symptoms or those of a child or colleague, please call NHS 111. Do not go directly to your GP or other healthcare environment

Brixham Theatre CIO will do everything they can to ensure that the theatre continues to operate.  However, the theatre is run entirely by volunteers and it is difficult to plan for Volunteer illnesses on a large scale.

 All Volunteers are asked to advise Volunteer Co-ordinator (confidentially) of any underlying health issues they or their partners may have.  This ensures that the appropriate measures are put in place to protect anyone that may be at a higher risk.   If a Volunteer believes that his/her health is at risk, they should consider the above information when attending events and meetings.  If they are in any doubt, apologies should be submitted to the Volunteer    Co-ordinator.

As Brixham Theatre is part of the Town Hall complex we will work in conjunction with the other organisations that operate within the building.

If there is a known case at Brixham Town Hall, the Town Council & Brixham Theatre CIO will follow protocol and advice.  This may include closing the building for a deep clean.  This will have an effect on tenants and hirers therefore this decision will be made by Brixham Town Council through the appropriate channels and based on guidance and information available at the time.

If the building were to close for a period of time and detrimentally impact on one or more events scheduled to take place at Brixham Theatre then these events would have to be postponed or cancelled. Every effort would be made to contact those who have purchased tickets for affected events and full refunds will be given.

For information on how to have your tickets refunded please call Charles Oldroyd (BTCIO Treasurer)

Please note refunds will only be honoured in connection to;

  • a postponed or cancelled event due to town hall closure

  • an inability to safely staff an event

  • individual exceptional circumstances
